Manish Kumar Soni

The firm is headed by Manish Kumar Soni, Principal Notary.

After having read Mathematics and Computer Science at Kings College London as his first degree, Manish spent his early career working as a Software Engineer.  In 2004, he converted to law and obtained his Diploma in Notarial Practice in 2005 via the University of Cambridge.   

Manish Soni is a lawyer as well as an experienced IT professional. Having read Mathematics and Computer Science at Kings College London as his first degree, he initially spent over 6 years working as a professional Software Engineer using a popular 3GL language. On obtaining a commendation in law studies in 2004, he became a practising lawyer in 2005.  

In terms of information technology and security highlights, these have included: co-designing and developing the first bespoke notarial services IT cloud-based system for UK notaries; responsibility for firm information security, information governance and privacy, including implementing the ISO27001 standard internally; and leading software design & development projects for the firm, including an e-commerce site.

In terms of legal experience, Manish obtained his primary experience in the area of corporate governance / company law before focusing on IT and data protection law generally, in line with his specialism in IT. 

Manish is currently reading for an advanced computer science Master's degree in Software and Security Systems (Cybersecurity) at the University of Oxford on a part-time basis while continuing to focus on Cybersecurity and Data protection legal practice at Macfarlanes LLP.

He is a member of the Society for Computers and Law, the British Computer Society, the Notaries Society and the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Manish also frequently writes on data privacy and cybersecurity in respected journals and speaks at events related to his specialism. 

Stephen Yiu

Stephen Yiu (LLM, MITI) is a Notary Public and a member of the Notaries Society of England and Wales.  He is also a qualified solicitor.

Stephen is a linguist, is proficient in Chinese (oral and written) and is a registered Member of the Institute of Translations and Interpreters.  Additionally he is fluent in French and has a reading knowledge of Spanish.
